The
International Queen Conch Conference I, was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico on July 29-31, 1996.
It convened fishery managers and scientists from the Caribbean Region to
discuss the latest information available on research, stock assessment
and management alternatives for the queen conch fishery. The
participants agreed, as stated in the Declaration of San Juan, adopted
at the Conference as the initial step of the International Queen Conch
Initiative, to promote a common international management strategy for
the queen conch resource in the Caribbean region.
